Methylation Panel – Doctors Data
Price range: $497.00 through $677.00
Comprehensive blood panel by Doctor's Data measuring key methylation cycle metabolites — including homocysteine, SAM, SAH, methionine, cysteine, and glutathione. Reveals how efficiently your body runs its methylation pathways, which govern detoxification, neurotransmitter production, DNA repair, and energy metabolism.
What is the Methylation Panel?
The Methylation Panel by Doctor's Data is a blood test that directly measures the key metabolites involved in the methylation cycle — one of the most fundamental biochemical processes in the human body. Methylation governs DNA repair, neurotransmitter synthesis, detoxification, histamine clearance, hormone metabolism and cellular energy production.
Unlike genetic tests (such as MTHFR), which only tell you what could happen based on your genes, the Methylation Panel measures what is actually happening in your biochemistry right now. This makes it an essential complement to genetic testing and a critical tool for patients with complex chronic conditions.
Is this test for you?
The Methylation Panel is for people who suspect methylation dysfunction is driving symptoms that conventional treatment has not resolved:
- Known MTHFR or methylation gene variants — to see if genetics translate into functional impairment
- Depression, anxiety or mood instability resistant to standard treatment
- Chronic fatigue that hasn't responded to basic nutritional support
- Elevated homocysteine on standard blood work
- Chemical sensitivity, histamine intolerance or mast-cell activation
- Recurrent miscarriage or fertility issues
- Family history of cardiovascular disease, dementia or neural-tube defects
- Long-term use of medications that deplete B vitamins (metformin, PPIs, oral contraceptives)
What it measures
Six core markers across methylation and transsulphuration pathways — with the SAM/SAH ratio as the single most important functional indicator.
S-Adenosylmethionine (SAM)
The body's primary methyl donor — required for over 200 enzymatic reactions. Low SAM indicates impaired methylation capacity and is associated with depression, fatigue and poor detoxification.
S-Adenosylhomocysteine (SAH)
The byproduct of methylation reactions. Elevated SAH inhibits methyltransferase enzymes and signals a bottleneck in the methylation cycle.
SAM/SAH Ratio
The single most important marker on this panel. A low ratio indicates functional methylation impairment regardless of individual SAM or SAH levels.
Homocysteine
A sulphur-containing amino acid that accumulates when methylation and transsulphuration pathways are impaired. An independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration and pregnancy complications.
Methionine
The essential amino acid feeding into the methylation cycle. Low methionine can indicate poor dietary intake, malabsorption or excessive demand on methylation.
Cysteine & Cystathionine
Downstream markers of the transsulphuration pathway — the route that converts homocysteine into glutathione (the body's master antioxidant).
Sample collection
Turnaround time
From the date the laboratory receives your sample.
Samples are processed in the United States by Doctor's Data's ISO-accredited laboratory.
How it works
Referral delivered
A blood-draw referral and collection-centre guide are emailed to you within 1 business day.
Blood draw
Attend an approved collection centre for a standard fasting blood draw.
Lab processing
Your sample is shipped to Doctor's Data for analysis.
Results released
Your report is emailed to you the moment the lab releases it. What happens next depends on your tier —
- Test only: the report is yours to use as you see fit — no consultation included. You can book a separate consultation with Rohan later if you change your mind.
- Test + 60-min Telehealth Consult: once your results land, Rohan will email you a booking link to schedule your Zoom.
- Existing patients of the clinic: results are typically discussed at your next regular appointment as usual.
Why this test, why now?
Genetic testing tells you about capacity; the Methylation Panel tells you about function. A patient can have classic MTHFR variants and still methylate well, or have a normal genotype and methylate poorly. The only way to know what is actually happening is to measure the metabolites directly.
For patients with mood symptoms, fatigue, chemical sensitivity or recurrent miscarriage where methylation is suspected, this test moves you from theoretical risk to measured biochemistry.
Why Elemental Health and Nutrition?
Methylation is one of Rohan's core clinical specialties. He has spent 13 years interpreting methylation panels alongside genetic data for patients with complex mood, fatigue and detoxification issues. With Test + 60-min Telehealth Consult, your appointment delivers a clear, prioritised strategy covering targeted supplementation, dietary methylation support and any further testing needed.
