HTMA – Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis
Price range: $197.00 through $377.00
Hair tissue mineral analysis measuring 35+ minerals and toxic metals from a small hair sample — revealing long-term mineral status, heavy metal burden, and metabolic patterns invisible to standard blood tests. Ideal for patients with fatigue, thyroid dysfunction, stress, or unexplained symptoms.
What is HTMA?
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a screening test that measures the mineral composition of a small sample of hair. Because hair grows slowly and accumulates minerals over time, HTMA provides a 3-month window into your body's mineral status, toxic metal exposure and key metabolic ratios — information a single blood draw simply cannot capture.
It is one of the most cost-effective functional tests available and is used clinically to identify hidden patterns of mineral depletion, heavy metal toxicity, adrenal stress, thyroid dysfunction and nervous system imbalances.
Is this test for you?
HTMA is for people whose symptoms suggest a mineral or metals story that blood work isn't catching:
- Persistent fatigue or low energy despite normal blood work
- Thyroid symptoms with “normal” TSH and T4
- Anxiety, irritability, or nervous tension
- Hair loss, brittle nails, or poor wound healing
- Brain fog, poor concentration, or memory issues
- Known or suspected heavy metal exposure (amalgam fillings, occupational, environmental)
- Chronic stress patterns — adrenal depletion or burnout
- Children with behavioural or developmental concerns
What it measures
Three categories of markers from a single hair sample — with metabolic ratios providing the real clinical gold.
Nutritional Minerals (15+)
Calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, copper, iron, manganese, chromium, selenium, phosphorus and more. Assessed both individually and as ratios — balance matters as much as absolute levels.
Toxic Metals
Lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, aluminium, uranium. Even low-level chronic exposure drives fatigue, brain fog and hormonal disruption. HTMA detects accumulation patterns blood tests frequently miss.
Sample collection
Turnaround time
From the date the laboratory receives your sample.
Samples are processed by Trace Elements in the United States — an industry-leading lab with over 40 years of clinical HTMA experience.
How it works
Kit dispatched
Your HTMA collection instructions are emailed to you upon purchase.
Collect at home
Cut a small hair sample following the simple protocol.
Post back
Mail the completed kit to the lab (an envelope and stamp are required).
Results released
Your report is emailed to you the moment the lab releases it. What happens next depends on your tier —
- Test only: the report is yours to use as you see fit — no consultation included. You can book a separate consultation with Rohan later if you change your mind.
- Test + 60-min Telehealth Consult: once your results land, Rohan will email you a booking link to schedule your Zoom.
- Existing patients of the clinic: results are typically discussed at your next regular appointment as usual.
Why this test, why now?
Blood mineral testing has a fundamental limitation: the body works extraordinarily hard to keep serum levels stable, drawing from bone, muscle and tissue stores to maintain blood values long after stores are depleted. By the time blood values shift, the problem is well advanced. HTMA shows you what is actually in the tissue, not just what is in transit.
For patients with persistent fatigue, thyroid symptoms, anxiety or suspected metal exposure where standard bloods read “normal”, HTMA is often the first test that finds something concrete to work with.
Why Elemental Health and Nutrition?
Rohan has used HTMA as a core clinical tool for over a decade, particularly for patients with complex fatigue, thyroid and toxicity patterns. With Test + 60-min Telehealth Consult, your appointment delivers a clear, prioritised strategy covering mineral repletion, detoxification support, dietary changes and any further testing needed.
