DUTCH Adrenal Profile
$381.00
Comprehensive dried urine test measuring cortisol and cortisone patterns throughout the day, plus cortisol metabolites. Ideal for assessing adrenal function, stress response, and HPA axis dysregulation.
Description
What Is the DUTCH Adrenal Profile?
The DUTCH Adrenal Profile (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) by Precision Analytical is a specialised functional test that provides a detailed picture of your adrenal function and stress hormone patterns. Unlike a single-point blood cortisol test, the DUTCH Adrenal maps your cortisol and cortisone levels across the entire day — revealing how your body produces, metabolises, and clears stress hormones over a full diurnal cycle.
This test is considered the clinical gold standard for assessing HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis function and is one of the most commonly ordered tests at Elemental Health & Nutrition for patients presenting with fatigue, sleep disturbance, anxiety, and stress-related symptoms.
What Does It Measure?
Diurnal Free Cortisol Pattern (4 points)
Waking, morning, afternoon, and evening free cortisol levels — mapped against reference ranges to identify abnormal cortisol curves including flat-line patterns, inverted rhythms, or elevated evening cortisol.
Diurnal Free Cortisone Pattern (4 points)
Cortisone is the inactive form of cortisol. Measuring both hormones reveals how efficiently your body converts between active and inactive forms — a process governed by the 11β-HSD enzyme system.
Cortisol Metabolites
Total cortisol production measured via metabolites (a-THF, b-THF, b-THE, a-THE). This is critical because free cortisol alone can appear normal even when total cortisol production is significantly elevated or depressed.
DHEA-S
The primary adrenal androgen and a key marker of adrenal reserve. Low DHEA-S relative to cortisol can indicate chronic stress and adrenal depletion.
Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) — Optional Add-On
A specialised measurement taken at waking and 30 minutes post-waking to assess the acute cortisol spike that occurs upon rising. Clinically useful for evaluating HPA axis reactivity, depression risk, and chronic fatigue.
Who Should Consider This Test?
This test is particularly valuable for patients experiencing:
• Persistent fatigue — especially “wired but tired” patterns or morning exhaustion
• Sleep disturbance — difficulty falling asleep, waking at 2–4 AM, or unrefreshing sleep
• Anxiety, irritability, or feeling overwhelmed by minor stressors
• Afternoon energy crashes and sugar/caffeine cravings
• Chronic stress — work, relationship, or health-related
• Brain fog and poor concentration
• Recurrent illness or slow recovery from infection
• History of burnout, shift work, or prolonged high-demand periods
• Unexplained weight gain — particularly around the midsection
