Description
The Organic Acids Test (OAT) evaluates 74 markers and provides a comprehensive snapshot of a persons overall health. Markers include oxidative stress, vitamin and minerals, neurotransmitters, glutathione, oxalates and intestinal levels of yeast and bacteria, ketone markers, and mitochondrial markers. The presence of abnormally high levels of yeast and/or bacteria may lead to fatigue, immune dysfunction, behaviour disorders, movement disorders and hyperactivity.
The OAT can be used to identify gut infections and overgrowth such as Candida, Clostridia, and also the presence of moulds, which can lead to an imbalance in neurotransmitters. This may result in mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and even the “tired but wired” feeling, which is very common.
Mitochondrial markers provide insight into how the citric acid cycle is creating energy, and ketone markers assess the persons ability to turn fat into energy. The Glutathione markers are great to assess detox ability, and the ability to clear heavy metals and environmental toxins. Oxalates are commonly elevated, which are associated with neurological issues, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, autism and other conditions.
